DARJEELING, 17 JUNE: Thirteen more accused, whose names feature in the charge-sheet filed by the CID in August 2010 in connection with the Madan Tamang assassination case, surrendered today at the Darjeeling Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court. The case was later transferred to the CBI following a plea by the AIGL and the widow of the slain leader, Mrs Bharati Tamang. The charge-sheet contains 30 names in all. Of them, two are absconding. The principal accused ~ Nicole Tamang ~ had fled from CID custody at Pintail village in August 2010 and he still remains untraced. Dinesh Subba is also absconding. Suresh Rai, another accused, is reportedly bed-ridden after he was shot. Dil Kumar Rai’s body was found near Singla Tea Estate. The AIGL leaders said that those absconding will also be brought to justice soon. “The accused cannot be in hiding forever,” said a senior AIGL leader, Mr Pratap Khati, adding justice is catching up with those responsible for the crime. The court has rejected bail pleas of those who have surrendered. The defence lawyer, Mr Seshmani Gurung said they would be produced again on 1 July. sns *
