Congress has failed immigrant communities and has refused to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform. However, advocates across the country fought tirelessly to stop the deportations a different way: an executive order from President Obama. President Obama finally fulfilled his promise of protecting up to 5 million immigrants from deportation through administrative relief, and it was thanks to you! Your efforts and all the hard work of brave immigrant families won this. Now that we won a major victory for our families, we need get ready. Implementing administrative relief will be the greatest challenge immigrant advocates or service providers have ever faced. It will likely be several times larger than DACA, and certainly much larger than any group can implement on their own. We need a statewide strategy to help eligible immigrants get the right information, access high quality legal and social services, and avoid “notarios” and scam artists. We also need to build the leadership of the community so we can keep fighting for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and Citizenship. Please join the Michigan Administrative Relief Steering Committee for a conversation regarding a proposal for a statewide plan for action, and raising the resources necessary to serve our communities.
