PASTOR’S CORNER Hardy Park: Last Saturday, neighborhood leaders like Steven Buckinghan of the Tarpon River Civic Association and city officials like Mayor Jack Seiler cut the ribbon our local city park, with its upgraded facilities. What a beautiful day! Check out the playgroud and other fine features of the park with your family! In his remarks, Mr. Buckingham cited Peter Kageyama’s book For the Love of Cities and commented: “Hardy Park is what he would call a ‘love note’ to the neighborhoods and the city of Ft Lauderdale. It is a place to not only to play, but it’s a place that promotes local ‘awesomeness’. So, … let’s enjoy our love affair with Hardy Park.” Ash Wednesday—yesterday—was a time when our students got to begin the season of Lent. Our 7th & 8th grade classes marked the day by wearing a sign in ashes on their foreheads. As Teacher Debra Kraft identifies them, they are: “Children of God, marked by the cross!” Throughout Lent, we will have a meal every Wednesday at 6:00 pm followed by a time of God’s service to us at 7:00 pm. Come and be a part of our discovery of how God in Christ is restoring brokenness! Next Sunday, when we gather for worship at 10:00 am, the Bible will report what it took for Christ to begin this restoration—and who it was trying to stop Him. It’s a far more compelling account than any we hear in the news today—and, far more consequential! Let us pray: O God, You reveal how Your heart is broken by what people do with their lives and the creation in which we live. Yet, You don’t give up loving us, for Christ’s sake. Open our hearts—broken by our own selfishness and the hurts we inflict on others—to embrace You who keeps reaching out to us through Jesus. Amen. Pastor Tom Hackett, Trinity Lutheran Church & Academy
