DAVID DAVIS IS NOT FOR SALE Jackett, today insisted midfielder David Davis is “not for sale” after reports linked him with a move to Blackburn. The 22-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, was named as a target for Rovers in a report yesterday after the Ewood Park club missed out on Villa midfielder Barry Bannan. Rovers are desperate to sign a central midfielder before Sunday’s big kick-off at Derby after the departure of Danny Murphy and former Wolves man David Jones – who was there on loan – and an injury to Lee Williamson. But Jackett said: “He’s not for sale. We’ve had no approach from Blackburn and I’ve got to be honest, we wouldn’t welcome any. “He’s been in the team and there’s every chance he’ll make the team against Preston tomorrow. I can assure Wolves supporters that there’s been no contact.” Jackett wanted to sign Davis for Millwall and believes the Smethwick-born ball-winner has much more to offer as he plays catch-up following his broken ankle suffered in April. “He’s shown glimpses of his best; I was very impressed with him when I saw him last season and I felt he was probably unlucky not to play more games,” said the boss. “Then he got injured when the season really builds up, where you can lose several players. He feels he should have played more games, but the periods he had in the side he showed a lot of promise.” Jackett revealed he and assistant head coach Joe Gallen are working hard to improve Davis’s game. “We’ve been working on his left foot because his passing there has to improve,” he said.
