DAY #11 – DID THE CHRIST OF CHRISTMAS CLAIM TO BE GOD? Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16: 15, Mark 8:29, Luke 9:20) Mormon say the spirit brother of Lucifer. Jehovah’s Witnesses say the Archangel Michael. New Agers say Jesus was an avatar. His disciples said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said they were blessed because of their answer. First, because Jesus claimed to be the unique Son of GOD, the Jewish leaders tried to kill Him. To the Jews, Jesus’ claim of being “I AM” (John 8: 58) was the height of blasphemy. Biblically illiterate people might miss the importance of Jesus’ words. However, the chief priests and the Jewish counsel did not! Today, as we consider the greatest of all questions, may we be even more mindful that the Christ born in a manger is the very One who spoke and caused the limitless galaxies to leap into existence.
