DAY 2: NATURAL HOMEMADE PRODUCTS TOOTHPASTE: Ingredients: 4 Tbs Coconut Oil 4 Tbs Bentonite Clay 2 – 3 Tbs filtered water 1/2 tsp Real sea salt 10 – 15 drops peppermint essential oil Directions: 1. Mix coconut oil, clay, and salt in a small bowl. Start with just one tablespoon of water. Working with the back of a spoon, “cream” the ingredients together and add more water until you like the consistency. 2. Add in the peppermint oil (or cinnamon or spearmint) and then mix until well combined. Store in air tight container. Thats it!! and best of all its safe to consume in case the kids dont rinse to well! INSECT REPELLENT: 2 Tbs. of witch hazel 2 Tbs. of jojoba, almond, or olive oil 50 – 60 drops essential oils Sample Essential Oil Blend: 30 drops lemon eucalyptus (reported by the CDC to be a good natural substitution for DEET in repelling insects, but is not recommended for use on children under 3 yrs.) 10 drops cedarwood 10 drops lavender 10 drops rosemary Directions: 1. Combine witch hazel with oil of choice. 2. Mix in essential oils. Combine thoroughly. 3. Rub or spray the natural insect repellent onto skin or clothing, using care to avoid the sensitive eye area. * You’ll need to re-apply the natural product after about an hour or after swimming or exercise. Unused natural insect repellent may be stored in a dark bottle, away from heat or sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow. DRAIN DE-CLOGGER: Ingredients: 1/4 – 1/2 cup baking soda 1/2 – 1 cup white distilled vinegar 1/2 – 1 gallon of boiling water (8 – 16 cups) You’ll also need something to “plug” or cover the drain after you pour in the ingredients. Directions: Before you begin make sure to remove any drain stops or plugs. You want an open drain for this to work. 1. Pour baking soda down the drain. Really get it down. You can use a funnel to help with this. 2. Pour in half the vinegar and quickly cover the drain with something to keep the “fizz” going down the drain. Once it has stopped fizzing, pour the remaining vinegar and quickly cover the drain again. 3. Keep it covered and let the mixture sit for 15 – 30 minutes. Use this time to boil your water. 4. Slowly pour boiling water down the drain. Nice, easy, and slow. Pour it directly into the drain. Depending on the severity of the clog, you may have to repeat this entire process 2 or even 3 times. But trust this dynamic duo to do its thing! BLEACH ALTERNATIVE: Ingredients: - 1 ½ cup 3% hydrogen peroxide - ½ cup lemon juice - Distilled water to fill a gallon jug - 10 – 12 drops lemon essential oil Instructions: 1. Mix all ingredients together in gallon jug. Gently shake to combine. 2. Use one cup of homemade bleach in your washing cycle to whiten clothes. WEED KILLER: * 8 Cups apple cider vinegar (because it has a higher acidity than regular white) * ½ cup salt (You can omit if you want. The salt will cause the roots to die and rob the soil of nutrients so for our poison oak that’s fine, if it were in a garden area that would be different.) * 2 squirts of dawn dish soap. I know that’s highly scientific. (I would estimate about 4 tbs.) Mix all ingredients together and then put into an empty squirt bottle, then your all ready to go!!
