DAY 21) HOW TO HANDLE SOCIAL MEDIA Who ever tried to fill a blog with content knows that it´s difficult to catch the peoples attention. To make them comment often it only works when you offer a free download or doing a lottery. It´s also an easy thing: posting a cat picture will give you hundreds of likes. Posting a new track or a longer text such as my calendar series here you obviously get a low attention only. Sure: people are lazy to read. That´s social media too, it´s a free network. And it´s important that you know how to manage it. Here are some tipps: - Don´t post the same everyday. Find a good mixture between posting status, photo, video and link to other content. - Write in english when most of your fans don´t speak your language. But don´t be a poser and write a super cool announcement in english when 95% of your fans are german and you´re having a gig in your hometown Berlin. - Don´t talk about politics because obvisiously lots of your fans don´t share your opinion. - Don´t like your own postings. It´s like buying your own records and makes you look like an idiot. - Never cry on social media that you don´t have any bookings. That´s the fastest way to become an uninteresting act. Also don´t post your booking contact every week. When a club or promoter is interested in booking you, they will find a way to contact you. No one books you out of pity! - To all the studio posers: I know that every artist is proud of his studio and wants to share all the new machines with everyone. But I´m not a big friend of this kind of posing. In the end it´s your decision what you want to share. Anyway: always take care what you are posting on social media. Note that lots of people have your private/studio address and everyone knows which weekend you´re not at home because your DJ dates are public. - SoundCloud: Try to repost only stuff you are involved in. It´s okay to repost a friends track or podcast but try to concentrate on your own music when you have thousands of people following your profile yet. Only offer quality stuff to keep their attention. - Never stop to expand your social network and make sure that all of your social media channels are connected with each other. Have a nice sunday everyone! Marc P.S.: my remix for Adam Stacks Waterfall (feat. Luis Baltes) was caught by Pete Tong for his upcoming radio show on BBC Radio 1...
