DAY 272 – DO NOT BE SHY TO BE JOYFUL ------------------------------------------------- Make sure that you rejoice in the LORD when you have other things to rejoice in as well. When the LORD God loads your table with good things, and when your cup is overflowing with blessings, rejoice more in him than in those things. The LORD your Shepherd is better than the green pastures and the still waters – therefore, do not rejoice in the pastures or in the waters in comparison with your joy in the Shepherd who gives you all these. Let us never make gods out of our goods. Let us never allow what God gives us to replace, override and to supersede the Giver. Will the wife love the jewels that her husband gave her more than she loves him who gave them to her? That would be an evil love or no love at all. Let us love first, and rejoice in the LORD always when the day is brightest. Rejoice in the LORD always. That is, if you have not rejoiced before, begin to do so now – and when you have been rejoicing, keep on rejoicing. You shall not be afraid of evil reports, if your heart is fixed and trusting in the LORD. Rejoice in the LORD always. Do not anticipate trouble. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Take the good that God gives you, and rejoice not just in it, but in him who provides it. Then you will be able to enjoy it without fear, because there is good salt with that food which is eaten coming from the hand of God. Even when you are in a group of people, rejoice in the LORD also. Do not be afraid and be ashamed to let others see that you are glad. Rejoice in the LORD also when you are alone. When you cannot get anybody else to rejoice with you, continue to rejoice still. There is a way of looking at everything which will show you that the blackest cloud has a silver lining. There is a way of looking at all things in the light of God, which will turn into sweetness that which otherwise has been bitter. There is a strange cup called a quassia cup. It is made up of wood. When you pour water into it, it turns bitter just before you drink it. You make keep this cup as long as you like, but it always embitters the water put into it. If you have this cup, I want you to buy another kind of cup that will make everything poured into it sweet, whatever it is. Now, whatever God pours into you shall come into your cup – your contentment, your delight and your joy shall sweeten it all. May God Almighty bless you abundantly, with this much holy joy!
