DAY 314 – THE HOLY SPIRIT STRENGTHENS AND EMPOWERS US -------------------------------------------------------- If a person can pray, his problem is then lightened. When we feel that we have power with God and can obtain anything we ask from him, then our problems and difficulties cease to oppress us. Prayer is a great way of easing grief and sorrows. Our spiritual and even physical wounds are bathed in the lotion of prayer – and as result the pain and fever are removed. At times we are brought into another state of mind, in which we do not know how to pray. We fall into such heaviness of spirit that the one remedy of prayer seems to be taken away from us. It is at this moment that the Holy Spirit comes in with his help. He draws near to teach us how to pray, relieves our suffering and enables us to bear the heavy burden. If in the time of trouble a man can pray, then his burden loses weight. If a believer can take anything and everything to God, then he learns to glory in trials and rejoice in tribulations. But there are times when we never know what we should pray for as we should. In reality, we never know what to pray for until we are taught by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us with his divine help and he is always present in time of trouble. He teaches us our needs and the promises of God which meet that need. The Holy Spirit should be very valuable in our lives. When we are in the dark, he gives us light. He comes and teaches us all things and brings all things to our remembrance. He guides us in prayer. He dwells within us as a counsellor and points out to us what it is that we should be asking for from God. The Holy Spirit teaches wisely, as no other teacher can do. Those who obey his promptings will never walk in darkness. The Holy Spirit is not sent to merely guide us, but he himself makes intercession for us. This doesn’t necessarily mean the Holy Spirit ever groans or personally prays. He arouses our desire and causes us to pray and plead with God. The Holy Spirit has a wonderful power over renewed hearts. His influences at times pass through the soul like winds, creating and inspiring gratitude and tones of desire. He can enable us to rise above the ordinary routine of prayer into victory against which nothing can stand. He can lay certain desires so pressingly upon our hearts that we can never rest till they are fulfilled. The Holy Spirit can cause the passion for God’s glory to be like fire within our bones. The Holy Spirit also divinely strengthens the faith of believers. That faith was created by him in the life of a believer and he also sustains it and increases it as he sees fits. And yes, you might have noticed/felt your faith rise in proportion to your trials. You have felt sure of the promise more during the trials than any other time. Your confidence is firm and unmoved, especially during the times of your trial. It is the Holy Spirit that strengthens even our confidence into what the LORD has promised. He is indeed wonderful. Since faith is essential to prevailing prayer, the Holy Spirit helps us in supplication by increasing our faith. Without faith prayer is useless and a faithless, wavering person cannot expect to receive anything from the LORD. Happy are we when the Holy Spirit removes our wavering and enables us to believe without staggering, knowing fully well that he who has promised is also able to perform what he has promised.
