DAY 5! After SURVIVING the bayou I quickly realized that my Moms depression from losing 2 sons was causing a serious financial burden on our family. My Mom sat in her room most of the day and only came out if we needed help with something. She slept most of the time on her back with her hands hanging out the bed so I would polish her nails red which was my favorite color and roll her hair so when she awake she would look beautiful! Because my Mom wasnt working full time, food....well lets just say, what food? We had no food. My Pastor, Mrs Brown would drop off food for us but it was never food that matched. Lol! Cheese no bread. Bread but no meat. As funny as it is today, back then it was tough. My oldest living brother tried to step up as much as possible. He started cutting the neighbors lawn for money and I would help by sweeping the grass and bagging it. Back then lawn mowers werent fancy with the automatic grass catchers on the back. You had to work. My brother would buy food for the family and pay water, gas, ect. I also started sitting the neighbors kids after school and tutoring. Down the street my my home was a bar. The owner Mr Yack would give me all the bottles and cans to recycle if I cleaned up the outside. Then he would take me to the recycle center to get PAID! I was so excited to be an ASSET to my family. At age 12 I was paying full mortgage $375 and the light bill! My Family was so surprised that I could make AND save so much money. I learned how to fight the financial bully that was trying to steal my families happiness. BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! My life, my story, my battle!
