DAY 6 After yesterdays walk, which ever one you chose or if you done a few, you will have seen some of Achill most spectacular scenery. Im sure today you will discover equally magnificent if not more. From some messages received, it was a tough climb in places but as someone said about Achill Head. Once we got there, we soon forgot about the hard climb, the views were like nothing weve ever seen before Like yesterday the Achill Tourism website has an extensive list of mapped walks or should you prefer there are professional guides available with considerable knowledge of the area. Achill Isle Walks, I cant recommend them enough. Always stay safe and never take unnecessary risks. If you are going alone or in a group be sure and check the weather forecast as Achills weather can change considerably in a short space of time. Give yourself plenty daylight time if you are intending to climb a mountain. Mountain Safety: Be prepared! Read a guide to Mountain Safety and tips on essential items to bring for a achilltourism/walks-safety Walk F - The Doogort Loop This circular walk is graded easy and can be completed in about 2 hours. Beginning at the Slievemore Hotel in Dugort, it passes the historic Mission Colony and Heinrich Bolls cottage before turning across open land through a col or hollow between two hills. It returns to the eastern end of Dugort village before following the beach and road back to the starting point. Distance: 9km Aggregate Height Gain: Insignificant Estimated Time: 2hrs 5mins Grade: Easy Walk G - The Valley - Dooniver Loop This lowland circular walk is graded easy and can be completed in about 2 hours 40 minutes. Beginning at the carpark at Valley church, it passes through Dooniver to the pier at Bullsmouth. It follows the shoreline for approximately 1km (please check tide timetable) before weaving between four lakes and returning past the historic Valley House. Distance: 12km Aggregate Height Gain: Insignificant Estimated Time: 2hrs 40mins Grade: Easy Walk I - The Saula Loop This lowland walk starts at Glendarrary, close to Achill Sound. It covers a distance of about 10km and is graded easy, with an aggregate height gain of 87m. The walk takes in coastal features around Achill Sound and should be completed in about two and a half hours. Distance: 10km Aggregate Height Gain: 87m Estimated Time: 2hrs 30mins Grade: Easy Walk J - The Achill Sound-Knockmore Loop Starting from Achill Sound, this 14km walk covers several low peaks and offers stunning views of the south-western shoreline of Achill. It is graded moderate and includes an aggregate height gain of 383. Allow four hours to complete this walk. Distance: 14km Aggregate Height Gain: 383m Estimated Time: 4 hrs Grade: Moderate Walk K - The Dooega-Minaun Loop A strenuous walk that offers panoramic views of Achill Island and Clew Bay from the summit of Minaun Hill. You should allow over five hours to complete this 18.5km hillwalk. Distance: 18.5km Aggregate Height Gain: 569m Estimated Time: 5 hrs 20 mins Grade: Strenuous Walk L - The Atlantic Loop Explore the south-eastern corner of Achill Island, steeped in history and offering breath-taking cliff scenery. Points of interest on this easy lowland walk include Kildavnet church and cemetery, Granuailes castle, and Darbys Point and pier. Distance: 12.5km Aggregate Height Gain: Insignificant Estimated Time: 3 hrs Grade: Easy achillislandholidays
