DAY 7: YOUR GANNA WANNA READ THIS- I came up here on an invite to chase a dream and do something very few (VERY FEW) amputees and paras have ever done before compete in BOBSLEDDING. Ive worked my ass off since Ive been here to stand out set an example and do the best I can to see where I could go with this. For several days several of the officials running the show here at Calgary Olympic Park have been trying to convince me to try Skeleton. For those of you that dont know what that is, its one man going downs the same track as the bobsled but on a one man tiny sled that you lay on head first and fly down the track at speeds going up to the 100 mph range. When watching this sport first hand my answer to them was NO THANK YOU (it looks as terrifying as it sounds Ill post video) but when one of the officials pulled me aside today he said that because of so many variables and issues there still sorting out that not only were we not going to be able to compete in the upcoming World Cup but it was looking unlikely it would make it into the 2018 Paralympics. He then told me but if you try Skeleton you can make history AND very likely (if I did well) compete in the upcoming WORLD CUP next weekend. I came here to make history, I came here because the door and opportunity was opened to me so I couldnt let fear close that door. I have been absolutely TERRIFIED all day for my first run as a Skely but my angel, best friend and love of my life calmed my nerves and once again pushed me to not give up. I LOVE YOU Billy Edney. I not only did 1 run but 3 back to back and yes its Scary but I LOVED IT!!! I didnt come all this way to come home empty handed. Another door has opened and thanks to encouragement from my teammates and my wife Im doing things I never imagined doing. Thank you to all my teammates, you guys have a friend for life in me. Here is a video of me walking the track watching a few other Skely athletes go down the track. Yes this is what I did tonight!!! Ill post my videos as soon as I get them from the staff in a day or 2. Dream big, take chances, love life!!! Time to switch gears. TEAM USA!!!!
