DAY #8: GO ON A QUEST FOR WISDOM Wisdom says: “I love all who love me. Those who search for me will surely find me. Unending riches, honor, wealth, and justice are mine to distribute. My gifts are better than the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. Those who love me inherit wealth, for I fill their treasuries.” (Prov. 8:17-21). Do you ever notice how the most popular stories are about some sort of a quest? Whether it is a hunt for buried treasure, or a search for some sort of paradise, our imaginations are drawn into stories that look for riches, gold or precious gems. From the classic story Treasure Island to the Indiana Jones movies, everybody loves a good adventure tale. In the above passage, Solomon continues to encourage people to seek after wisdom, and he tells us that there is a blessing to those who get wisdom: Riches, honor, wealth and justice, gifts that are better than silver or gold. In the Gospel of Luke, there is a story where the resurrected Jesus is walking the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus with two disciples. On this journey, Jesus gave them the most amazing Bible study: “Then Jesus quoted passages from the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining what all the Scriptures said about himself.” (Luke 24:27). Basically, He went through the entire Old Testament, which was full of types and shadows of Himself. In every book of the Bible, you will find - Jesus! The book of Proverbs is no different. In Proverbs, Jesus is the wisdom that we are to seek after. The New Testament tells us that “God alone made it possible for you to be in Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Christ to be wisdom itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us pure and holy, and he gave himself to purchase our freedom.” (1 Cor. 1:30). To know wisdom is to know Jesus personally. There is a wonderful blessing promised to those who seek after and find wisdom: “For whoever finds me (wisdom) finds life and wins approval from the LORD.” (Prov. 8:35). But there is also a warning to those who won’t search for wisdom: “But those who miss me (wisdom) have injured themselves. All who hate me love death.” (Prov. 8:36). Do you want to live long and prosper? Then don’t be foolish - seek after the wisdom in God’s Word today. If you haven’t been opening up your Bible to do the daily readings from Proverbs, I want to encourage you to start doing so today. A chapter a day may not necessarily keep the devil away, but it will give you practical wisdom for daily living. Go on a quest for wisdom today! TODAY’S READING: PROVERBS CHAPTER EIGHT. #WiseUp
