DAY TRIP TOURS: EMIL TAKES A ROLL OF FILM TO VICTORY MONUMENT -- BANGKOK Dateline Bangkok: Emil accepted our challenge to go old school and take a single roll of film...Yes 36 exposures...maybe 38 if you rolled the film right...to do an entire photo shoot...just like we use to do in the old days with our trusty old Nikon F4. The new generation is spoiled by being able to shot 10K plus pictures on a single card. Our argument is that this has led to a decline in the ability of photographers. Back in the day, to shoot and process a single roll of 36 photos was a rich persons sport. The cost of that single roll was $10 USD and that was in 1970 dollar terms. What it did do was to create a general mindset that each picture must count, must be perfect and any shot that didnt fit to that standard was dismissed and forgotten. Most people here know that Bangkoks Victory Monument is a transportation hub and that is about it. We sent Emil over to tell the human story of the monument in 36 frames or less. That was the challenge. And this is the result of this challenge... And here is the challenge to the rest of you...We challenge you to create your own tell a story of your own location and do it by ONLY shooting 36-38 pictures. Can you? A recent comment about Victory Monument and this is the closest we can get to our own thoughts: Militarist monument to honor Thailands Veterans --who reclaimed large tracks of Thailand seized by the French Colonials in the 19th Century and regained in a short war with the French Colonials in the early days of the 1940s. The monument is grand and large...so large that it has rather strange feeling of having been imported from somewhere in the USSR (they also love great, grand war monuments).
