DCS Family, The latest polar vortex is upon us creating another attendance day cancellation. In the past, because our building sits within the boundaries of the Maroa-Forsyth School district, if they closed, DCS was also closed. While that is a common sense move in most instances, it doesnt always fit our particular program. For instance, today we are closed entirely because of the cold. The dangerous windchill is a critical issue for those children walking to school or waiting outside for a bus to pick them up. At DCS, we have a handful of students that walk to school and we do not bus any students. Tomorrow, the windchills are predicted to be well below zero as well. However, the roads are relatively good and nothing really adverse is predicted for the day. So, tonight you may again see a lot of school closures scrolling across the screen, but please do not assume that DCS will automatically be closed. At this point, we are planning to be in session tomorrow. If you feel it is dangerous for your students to be out, please call and let us know you will be keeping them home. In this situation, with notification from parents, your student(s) will be excused. We will start and dismiss at the normal times. Please let me know if you have questions regarding this, and yes, I have already heard that I am just an old scrooge. But, I remember when I was a kid, we used to walk to school in three feet of snow, uphill, both ways ....... Thankful to be a part of His Story, Randy Grigg
