DDA Flats : A Reality Check In June 2012, the Agarwals paid 55 lakh for a two-bedroom flat at Yamuna Block in Vasant Kunj. Eight months later, they got possession of the flat but what they had to encounter sleepless nights. Damp walls, faulty electric wiring, no water connection, the problems just wouldnt end. The Agarwals story is not an isolated one. As the DDA gets ready to launch a new housing scheme this year, Mail Today decided to do a reality check on the three blocks - Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati - that had come up in Vasant Kunj as part of the 2010 scheme and found that most of the families who had moved into the flats had a similar tale to tell. Theres no fire safety clearance. The lifts are nonfunctional and the construction quality poor. Even after two years, the complex doesnt have a boundary wall and there are no doors or window panes in the flats. Yet, we have been asked to pay the full amount within three months or else pay a fine, one of the allottees in Ganga Block said. Source : India Today
