DE LIMAS DILEMMA Some say this newspaper article dignifies rumor and does De Lima an injustice considering the allegations have not been proven. Others hold the view that De Limas private life -- what she does in her bedroom or inside her tinted car -- has nothing to do with her job as justice secretary. But where theres smoke, theres fire and the stories about the driving influence in her life and her relationship with the man who came over from the US have long been feeding the rumor mill at the justice department. I think the Commission on Appointments must look into this, even if in camera, because it underscores a weakness which can weigh heavily on the scales of justice. This weakness can be exploited; others are saying it has already been exploited. That the suspicion exists is not good for a government official. De Lima should be like Caesars wife -- above suspicion. Since she is not, she should resign and join the entertainment industry where her dalliances, like the short-term relationships of Kris Aquino, would fuel her fan rating.
