DEAR FANS!!! Thanks for all the comments on my page and welcome to my KICK MALARIA page. I will be in Africa some time this week to give my full support to the kids. It is important to note that Malaria is a prime factor holding back economic and social development, especially in Africa. Hence its eradication and prevention can do so much Malaria is a life-threatening parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Malaria is rare in the United States. It is most often found in Africa, Southern Asia, Central America, and South America. Today approximately 40% of the worlds population mostly those living in the worlds poorest countries is at risk of malaria. The disease was once more widespread but it was successfully eliminated from many countries with temperate climates during the mid 20th century. Today malaria is found throughout the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world and causes more than 300 million acute illnesses and at least one million deaths annually. Ninety per cent of deaths due to malaria occur in Africa south of the Sahara mostly among young children. Malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds. Many children who survive an episode of severe malaria may suffer from learning impairments or brain damage. Pregnant women and their unborn children are also particularly vulnerable to malaria, which is a major cause of perinatal mortality, low birth weight and maternal anaemia. I was visioned about this project after a friend visited Cameroon and reports stating that a malaria upsurge in the town of Maroua, in the far north of Cameroon led to the death of hundreds of people. More than 10,000 people have been treated for the disease in the last week, straining the capacity of area hospitals and clinics. Hospitals in the far north of Cameroon are having problems handling the great number of malaria cases.More than 10,000 cases have been reported in the Town of Maroua alone. Women and pregnant women are the highest hit. According to statistics from my international team based in Cameroon, the medical team in the area has treated more than 8,000 malaria patients in the past 12 days. Data on how many have been treated at private and mission hospitals is not available. At least a thousand people have died since the kick off of my project. I will be most venerated if you join me support the course. If that is Ok by you get back to me so I forward with the support details. Since I will be going to Africa, you can send your supports directly to me via any Western Union store and I will have it picked up. This is just a precautionary motive to make sure your funds go to the cause. Keep me informed. Much Love Shemar Moore
