DECEMBER 8, 2014 From the Prayer Closet: There is a song in our hearts that is seeking to get out of the Prayer Closet. God’s song seeks to fill not only the air but our hearts. King David put it this way, “Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked out our salvation” (Psalm 98:1, NIV). A song, a prayer, a wishful blessing often consume us as we pray, focusing our attention on you. It is difficult to describe what actually takes place during this process. Isaiah attempts to capture the experience as he writes, “And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken” (Isaiah 40:5, NKJV). Today was we pray for you, we sense the consuming passion of the glory of the Lord touching our lives. The memories and pictures of you that we hold in our minds are being touched by the holy flames of God’s love. Thank you for sharing your lives with us who pray. Amen. Scripture: “Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.” (Psalm 98:1-2, NIV) Pray-ers Note: “There’s a song in the air! There’s a star in the sky!” Singing prayers often takes our focus off ourselves, the crises that people are asking us to pray for, and simply allows us to yoke with God. One secret to appreciating classical music is to see, or hear, how composers are able to weave musical themes and movements together in the making of a masterpiece. As we grow in our abilities to practice intercessory prayer, we can learn to weave prayers for healing, the opening of God’s windows of opportunity, and social/political/social justice issues into one nice concerto of prayer. Yes, there are low sorrowful movements in our prayer songs, yet there will also be hallelujah choruses that will raise us from our seats in grateful praise and adoration.
