DEFENDANTS IN 2013 EASTER PARTY SHOOTING IN COURT TODAY MERCED, CA - Jose Botello and Jose Carballido appeared in court today as families for both the victims and the defendants were in the court room audience. After some brief discussions the case was set for a preliminary hearing on April 20th in Court Room 3 at 10 am. Both defendants were wearing grey Administrative Segregation county jail uniforms. Sources say the two have come under intimidation and threat while in jail and have been placed into administrative segregation for their own protection. MCN spoke with Desiree Perreira after the hearing and she stated she was happy that the Attorney Generals office decided to keep the case rather than turn it back over to the Merced County District Attorneys office. I have every bit of confidence in our Sheriffs department and their investigation as well as the AGs office in prosecuting the case, she said. Both Jose Carballido and Jose Botello are said to have been involved in a shooting that happened on March 30th, 2013 that took the lives of Samantha Perreira, 16, and Matthew Fisher, 19. Both have pleaded not guilty in the case. Samantha Perreira survived the initial shooting and was taken to Mercy hospital and dropped off by someone who has yet to come forward. Samantha Perreira was found by medical staff and taken into an emergency trauma room. Later, she was transferred to a Modesto hospital where she died while in surgery.
