Let’s see why. The following class will focus on the elementary aspects of the Dark Art of casting spells, specifically curses and hexes that leave a victim “spellbound” or “enchanted.” Although spells can be used for good, the term as it used in this class will refer to “magical procedures which cause harm, or force people to do something against their will – unlike charms for healing, protection, etc.” – Oxford Dictionary of English Folklore. The medium used for casting spells are words, which are composed of symbols linked together to form (i.e., spell) a sound that conveys a thought or concept in a physical form that other people understand. Words, therefore, are one of the main tools used to implant thoughts into other peoples’ minds. When words are used with moral intentions to uplift the human soul, it is White Magic. When used for evil or destructive purposes, it is Black Magic. Let’s begin!
