DEFOREST CARTER SHINES IN LOSS TO FLORIDA STATE DeForest Carter put up impressive numbers, but the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University men’s basketball team fell short in its upset bid against Florida State, 95-73, in a preseason game Monday night in Tallahassee. Carter, a senior guard from the Big Cypress Reservation who is in his fourth season at Embry-Riddle, produced game-high totals in assists and steals to go along with a team-high 16 points. Carter dished out nine of his team’s 13 assists. His assist total was four more than anyone else on the court. He also accounted for all four of his teams steals. Carter hit six of eight shots from the field, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range. He was 2-for-2 from the foul line. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Carter also snagged five rebounds, which tied him for most on the team. The game marked the first time since 2005 that Embry-Riddle faced an NCAA Division I team, according to the schools athletics website. After the game, Carter tweeted: “Was a fun experience. Didn’t get the win, but I’m proud of the way we fought and played hard!!! We on a mission now!” Embry-Riddle will start its regular season Nov. 8 at home in Daytona Beach against Sterling. FSU will open Nov. 15 at home against Manhattan. The Seminoles were ranked eighth out of 15 teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference preseason poll by media.
