DEKHO DOSTO AAP PARTY KI ASLIYAT A few hundred people, who claimed to be Aam Aadmi Party volunteers, gathered outside the MHADA office in Kalanagar, Bandra yesterday to protest over the condition of transit camps in the state under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. The issue at the centre of the protest, however, was upstaged by the fact that a female constable’s pants got torn in the fracas. Her colleagues have claimed that her pants were torn by some of the protesters who had gathered there. Chikne (42), who chose not to divulge her first name, was on bandobast duty at MHADA around 4 pm, when the incident took place. Chikne, who is posted with the Amboli police station, joined the police force in 1992. Explaining what happened to her, she said, “Some people opposed me when we were trying to stop them during the protest, and in the scuffle I realised that my pant had been torn.” “We immediately escorted her out of the place. We took her to a safe spot in the MHADA building, after which she changed into a salwar kameez,” said another police constable. ‘Don’t blame us’ Meanwhile, AAP members refuted the claims, and alleged that the police had assaulted them. Anjali Damania, state leader of the AAP, said, “It’s disgusting to say that AAP party workers assaulted any policewoman.” Another leader Mayank Gandhi added, “The allegations are a bunch of lies. Instead, we are filing an FIR against the police personnel who assaulted our volunteers.” Ashok Kadam, senior police inspector of Kherwadi police station, said, “Two women constables and a male constable were attacked,” adding, “My priority is to get the problem resolved first, then we will se what happened to our people.” DCP Namdev Chavan said, “There were policemen standing outside the office to stop the public from entering the MHADA office. If something happened at this time, it was not on purpose.” mid-day/news/2013/sep/060913-woman-constables-pants-get-ripped-in-aap-protest.htm
