" DELAVAN — The reward for information leading to arrest of the individual responsible for the beating death of a snapping turtle has been increased to $8,200. The turtle, a female searching for a safe spot to lay her eggs, appeared to have been beaten with a golf club between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, at the Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan. The animal later died at the Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Fredonia. Its eggs were not found. This week, the Watertown-based Global Conservation Group added $2,000 to its initial reward of $1,000. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering a $5,000 reward, and the Rock County Humane Society added $200. “The investigation is continuing,” said Marcus Smith, public affairs officer for the southeast region of the Wisconsin Department of Resources. Smith said he had nothing new to report, and the department is continuing to work with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office. Jen Niemeyer, DNR conservation warden supervisor, said investigators have interviewed about 36 people who were on the grounds at the time of the offense. That number includes 18 golfers who were on their own at the time." .... gazettextra/news/2013/jun/19/reward-information-turtle-attack-increases-8200/
