DELEGATION ANNOUNCES DISASTER RELIEF FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE FLOOD DAMAGE Relief will help repair flood damage in Cheshire, Sullivan and Grafton Counties (Washington, DC) – U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Congresswomen Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) and Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced today that critical disaster relief resources have been awarded to communities in Cheshire, Grafton and Sullivan counties for flood damage repair. The $1.8 million in federal relief to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (DOT) will be used to help repair damage from severe storms and flooding that lasted from June 26 through July 3 earlier this summer. “Many New Hampshire communities were devastated by severe storms this summer,” said Shaheen, Ayotte, Shea-Porter and Kuster. “This assistance will support critical rebuilding efforts in Cheshire, Grafton, and Sullivan counties.” In July, the New Hampshire delegation welcomed federal emergency relief to help restore roadways to the area and this new federal grant to NH DOT will add to repair efforts that are already underway. Such Federal Emergency Relief (ER) funds are awarded to a state after the President or the Governor issues a formal emergency declaration and the state files a request for ER for the cost of damages to its eligible highways. Eligible repair work includes emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage, or protect the remaining facilities as well as permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to its pre-disaster condition.
