DELHI SCHOOL STUDENTS TO HAVE FREQUENT METRO RIDE CATCH ’EM YOUNG Metro rides for schoolgoers to teach them travel etiquette New Delhi: Delhi Metro is now catching its commuters early. In a bid to encourage youngsters to switch to public transport, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be conducting regular recreational trips for school students. The idea, says Delhi Metro, is to catch commuters early and encourage these youngsters to do their bit for the city as well as get their parents on board. DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said, “To educate school students about the etiquettes of travelling by Delhi Metro and to encourage the use of public transport among the new generation, DMRC has started conducting educational and recreational trips for school students on a regular basis.” As part of these trips—which will be conducted every week, school students will be taken on a joyride of the Delhi Metro during which the station controllers will brief them about the functioning of the Delhi Metro stations. They will also be taken to the Metro Museum at Patel Chowk, added the Delhi Metro official. “As part of the tour, the students are given complementary tourist Information booklets, Delhi Metro maps and pamphlets as well. Separate coaches are earmarked for their travel whenever it is feasible to do so,” said Dayal. Recently, more than a thousand students from the city’s prestigious schools such as Army Public School (Dhaula Kuan), Kendriya Vidyala (Dwarka Sector 12), North Delhi Public School, Abhinav Public School (Rohini) and other visited the Delhi Metro system. “Ever since the beginning of Metro operations, DMRC has been organizing such trips for students. However, now, the DMRC intends to organize such trips regularly so that the students become more aware and conscious about the benefits of using public transport and help Delhi Metro in maintaining discipline and etiquette inside the system,” Dayal said. -TOI
