DELTA State Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Patrick Origho has called on civil servants in the state to be part of the process that would enhance sustainable growth and development in the state civil service. Origho made the call yesterday while playing host to the Permanent Secretary in the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), Orerokpe Zonal Office, Pastor (Mrs.) Elizabeth Okiemute Okeregbe who paid him a pre-retirement visit. According to him, civil servants in the state should emulate the excellent performance record of retired Permanent Secretaries in the discharge of their official duties in order to move the state civil service to a higher height of glory, adding that those who have retired from service should, also, serve as mentors to those in service. He added that those in service should emulate the patriotic commitment of their senior colleagues that have retired from service by being dedicated and religiously committed to their duties. While applauding the retiring Permanent Secretary for her immense contributions to the growth and development of education sector as well as the civil service in the state, Origho wished her a happy retirement life, even as he stressed the need for her to make herself available whenever her services were needed. Earlier, Pastor (Mrs.) Okeregbe had told the HOS that she was in his office to formally intimate him of her retirement from the state civil service after 34 years of meritorious service to the people and government of the defunct Bendel State and Delta State. The retiring Permanent Secretary who disclosed that she joined the civil service in August, 1981 in the defunct Bendel State as an NCE graduate, expressed appreciation to Governor Uduaghan for her elevation to the post of Permanent Secretary, just as she thanked him and her colleagues for the high level of cooperation extended to her during her service years.
