DEMOCRACY VIOLATED IN TAIWAN! I have changed my profile picture to a pitch-black image to protest against the current injustice in Taiwan. Our President, Ma Ying-jeou, has disregarded the legal process by illegally signing the Cross-Strait Agreement on Trade in Services, a trade pact with China that will affect nearly every aspect of life in Taiwan. Since Tuesday, Taiwanese students have gathered in the parliament to stand up for their country’s legal process, against the violations of President Ma. Unfortunately, last tonight, police, under orders from the executive branch, began violently beating and spraying, with fire-hoses, the thousands of students protesting in front of the executive Yuan. The media has been blocked and commandeered by government propagandists, painting these students as anarchic rabble-rousers, but this image is far from the truth. Students, like you and I are fighting with their lives and well-being to ensure the ideals of a democratic Taiwan are never extinguished in our lifetime. We need your help to support democracy in the face of tyranny by helping the Taiwanese students in their struggle.
