DENHAM SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME Class of 2013 The Denham Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame and title sponsor, Sport-N-Center, have announced the names of six former athletes and one coach who will be inducted into the Class of 2013 on August 16 at Forrest Grove Plantation in Denham Springs. This is the third group to be honored, with a total of 29 members having been inducted in the first two classes. Tickets are on sale for the dinner banquet for $50 each at the school office on a first-come, first-serve basis. Joey Chustz, an All State football player in 1994 and later an All American lineman at Louisiana Tech, was the first athlete in school history to be drafted by the NFL and play professional football (Jacksonville Jaguars). Similarly, Australian exchange student Katrina Hibbert was the first DSHS athlete to be drafted by the WNBA and play women’s professional basketball (Seattle Storm), after leading the Lady Jackets to the state title in 1996 and earning first team All SEC honors three times at LSU. Celeste Gully Callender was a prolific scorer and two-time All State girls basketball player in 1958 and 1959. George Meadors made All District at three positions and was a unanimous All State football player in 1967, while Michael Sceroler was an All State defensive back in football and a star second baseman on the DSHS state title baseball team in 1986. Shannon Roubique was a 1990 All State lineman who would later become a four-year starting center at Auburn, with three first team All SEC selections. The only coach in the Class of 2013 was herself an All State basketball player for DSHS in 1964, who later coached her alma mater to two state championships in softball. Nikki Dixon Leader had a remarkable record of 211-75 in softball and 392-167 as girls basketball coach.
