DEPARTMENT: Community Programs - Summer FULL SALARY RANGE: $7.25 - $12.00 Hourly HIRING/ENTRY SALARY: $7.25 Intern / $9.00-12.00 Mentor JOB TYPE: A6 - Part Time - Summer Programs FLSA: Non-exempt position, eligible for overtime compensation. OPENING DATE: 01/27/14 CLOSING DATE: 03/30/14 11:59 PM GRADE: 999 OPENINGS: REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: No licenses or certifications are required for this position JOB OBJECTIVE: YOUTH INTERN: The individual will be responsible for various City Employment labor related functions (clerical, receptionist, building/grounds, maintenance, etc.) YOUTH MENTOR: This individual will work under the close supervision of the office administrative assistant and the direct guidance of the Community Programs Coordinator; summer mentors will provide employment related services to summer employment targeted groups consisting of youth, ages 16 – 21. The mentors will receive formal and in-house training, to develop an understanding of program regulations and assignments. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: YOUTH INTERN: Answers phones and clerical filing. Performs duties as directed by their assigned supervisor. Works in various climate conditions. YOUTH MENTOR: Reviewing high school profiles Referral of customers to suitable jobs Assisting and participating in presenting job search training workshops Desire to help other youth Demonstrate the ability to read and write at a level to document youth case records Desire and willingness to make presentation to groups of peers MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: YOUTH INTERN: Applicants must be a resident of the City of Little Rock. Applicants must be between the ages of 16 - 21 by June 1, 2014. YOUTH MENTOR: Mentors should be attending college in good standing with six (6) or more hours per semester. Recent college graduates will be considered. Valid Class D (Non-Commercial) Drivers License is required before employment. City of Little Rock residency is preferred.
