DESECRATION OF ABDUL HAMID MEMORIAL Lt Col CR Sundar, President Tamil Nadu BJP ExServicemen Cell It is a shame! Congress Party and its allies are destroying memorials of our brave soldiers during riots. Our soldiers need to be worshipped during peace and war because they have always laid down their lives for the sake of its people. Our memorials ought not to be vandalized. On 11 August 2012 we saw the reprehensible scene of a muslim youth kicking the Amar Jawan Memorial at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. Now we hear another sordid story about the desecration of the memorial of Company Quarter Master Havildar Abdul Hamid, one of our heroes of the War with Pakistan in 1965. Abdul Hamid was born in Dhamupur village in Ghazipur District of Uttar Pradesh on 01 July 1933. He joined the 4th Battalion of the GRENADIER Regiment as a Sepoy in 1954. He took part in the Chinese debacle of 1962 along with his unit. By 1965 he had risen to the rank of Company Quarter Master Havildar and was made in-charge to the 106 mm recoilless rifle platoon on account of his proficiency as an anti-tank gunner. During the Pakistan war of 1965 4 GRENADIERS, as part of 4 Mountain Division, was deployed in the Northern flank of the Khem Karan Sector. On 8 September when Pakistan sent a few tanks in a probing attack directed at his unit Hamid managed to shoot and destroy two tanks. On 10 September the Pakistanis made a determined attack. They preceded the attack with heavy artillery shelling. By 9am their tanks had appeared. Showing great courage amidst heavy bombardment Abdul Hamid moved forward and destroyed three enemy tanks. However, his gun detachment took a direct hit from the fourth tank and he laid down his life. But by his deed the enemy thrust was blunted. For his deed of gallantry performed with total disregard to his safety he was posthumously awarded the Param Veer Chakra, the highest decoration for bravery in the face of the enemy. His name is immortalized by libraries and hospitals in various cantonments and the appreciative people of Dhamupur have built a memorial for him. It is this memorial which has been desecrated in the recent riots. Uttar Pradesh has a shameful record. In the year-and-a-half since Alkilesh Yadav took over as Chief Minister of UP there have been 156 hindu-muslim clashes with great losses to the people. Muslim leaders such as Maulana Barelvi, lament the fact that muslims had supported Akilesh Yadav in the Lok Sabha elections. They promise that Samajwadi Party will be annihilated in the 2014 elections. The Tamil Nadu BJP ExServicemen Cell strongly condemns the desecration of Abdul Hamid memorial. Our Cell is requesting for permission to send a delegation to Dhamupur. A Warning about the Chennai War Memorial Ever since independence the Chennai War Memorial has been solely the preserve of the Armed Forces unsullied by foot falls of Dravidian politicians of Tamil Nadu. However, on Independence day, 2013, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ms Jayalalitha had visited the place to pay homage to martyrs. Dravidian Parties of Tamil Nadu have destroyed every venerable institution into which they had set foot. Hindu temples have been laid low. Every educational institution and all Panchayat organizations have been ruined. So also every lake has been contaminated and river beds rendered useless. Let us be alert and make sure that the Chennai War Memorial does not face a sorry future at the hands of the Dravidian parties of Tamil Nadu.https://mail.google/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif
