DETAIL BUFORD / HILL 55 2 August 1970 ... NMCB 62 BIRTHDAY .... Holiday routine ... late reveille ... then load up the 6xs for a road trip back to Camp Hoover. We made it on to Red Beach at 1030 hours. Sadly, Chico (EA3 Cataldo) could not make the trip back from the Special Forces Camp. But EA1 Leeds and EA3 Evans were both present and great partners for good conversation, which Wollenhaupt thoroughly enjoyed. BU3 Voight and Wollenhaupt were able to secure a sunfish sailboat and stayed at sea all afternoon. Then it was time to re-load the trucks and make our way back to Elliot Combat Base / Hill 55. Some T-bone steaks were grilling thanks to Baby Roth who acquired them and cooked them for all our enjoyment. EO1 Tye and Wollenhaupt found a secluded spot atop one of the perimeter defensive bunkers where they could eat in peace and speak of NMCB 62 policy and the morale of the Hill 55 Boys ... a very long evening meal.
