DETAILS: LODGEPOLE FIRE UPDATE Date of Detection: July 20, 2013 Current Size: 22,533acres Location: 10 miles West of Challis, ID Containment: 62% Resources on Fire: There are currently 562 personnel on this incident, including the following resources: CREWS-10 TYPE 1 HELICOPTERS (HEAVY)-1 TYPE 2 HELICOPTERS (MED.)-2 TYPE 3 HELICOPTERS (LIGHTS)-2 ENGINES-17 DOZERS-3 WATER TENDERS-6 Crews made slow, but consistent progress constructing a mile of handline along the White Valley Creek drainage yesterday. Aviation resources assisted these efforts with bucket work. Two heavy and medium helicopters provided water to cool spots where crews worked. Hot areas along the northern flank of the fire where resources have yet to progress were also targets for water drops. Single tree torching and creeping took place in the fire area. Shading from smoke caused by the Pony Complex and Elk fires moderated fire behavior and assisted crews with containment efforts. Crews also worked with a chipper to improve containment lines along the northeastern flank of containment lines. Dozer lines continue to be rehabbed where they are no longer needed. Today, crews will continue line construction up the White Valley Creek drainage. It is expected to take an additional three days for the five Interagency Hotshot Crews to tie the line into the rock scree slopes near the White Valley Mountain. Three medium and heavy helicopters will support handcrews with these efforts. Closure Area in Effect: Emergency Area Closure Order Number 04-13-13-553 went into effect August 9th to provide protection to Forest and BLM visitors from current fire safety hazards.
