The president is proposing government paid education from kindergarten through the first two years of college. The Wall Street Journal says - The proposal, which the president is expected to flesh out Friday in a talk at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tenn., is aimed at addressing Americans who look to a college degree as a ticket to the middle class but believe they cannot afford one. At the same time, business leaders are deeply concerned with a skills gap that has left hundreds of thousands of jobs unfilled across the country for lack of qualified workers. whitehouse.gov blog says - In our growing global economy, Americans need to have more knowledge and more skills to compete -- by 2020, an estimated 35 percent of job openings will require at least a bachelors degree, and 30 percent will require some college or an associates degree. The latest idea by the president is another body blow to the new Republican controlled Congress, who believed that this week was going to be their victory lap.
