DH: State » Apex court rejects Reddys bail plea New Delhi, July 22, 2014, DHNS: The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined the bail plea of mining baron and former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy, in an illegal mining case involving his Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC). A three-judge bench presided over by Justice H L Dattu, however, stated that the plea would be considered if the trial in the case was not completed expeditiously preferably within six months. Senior advocate Sushil Kumar who appeared for Reddy sought bail. Reddy moved the apex court challenging the High Court order which rejected his bail petition in 2013. Other judges Justices R K Agrawal and Arun Kumar Mishra also said that at the moment, the court was not in a position to grant bail, but he (Reddy) can approach an appropriate forum if the trial was not completed within six months. Kumar urged the court to reduce the time by three months. The petitioner and his brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director of OMC, were arrested by the CBI in Bellary on September 5, 2011. He, along with others, is facing five other cases. All the five cases are similar in nature and are interconnected so let the trial be complete, the court added. In the OMC case, the company is accused of changing the mining lease boundary markings and indulging in illegal mining in the Bellary Reserve Forest area, spread over Bellary in Karnataka and Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh.
