DIARY The Basu brothers were notorious for keep Diaries. I know that at least Satyendra and Sukumar had left 50 diaries each for their progeny to read and then do what ! ! My maternal grand father Satyendras diaries were with Ajay mama. He gave me this one once. This describes Satyendras Europe visit in the year 1928. It goes as follows 17th Oct 1928 in London. - I went to see the new play of GBS called The Apple Cart. It was to start at 8.15 pm. There is so much rush that there is no place to sit. Only two pence door was a bit empty. So we stood there in queue. We got to wait at least an hour and half ! I hired a stool for seating and paid 6 penny for it.But slowly there also the crowd gathered. A huge queue formed behind us. On the road there were many who were doing various activities to earn money. Two beggars started begging. Few started howling and singing and opened their hat and placed them on the road. Then one fellow played violin and asked for money. One fellow stood on his head in the middle of the road in between busy traffic .He then started walking on his hands. The cars were honking continuously. One black fellow came dressed as Skylark of Merchant Of Venice and started shouting the part. Plenty newspaper sellers were there of course. At 8 the door opened and we entered What a superb writing and grand acting !Queens Theater had beautiful sound. I enjoyed.
