DICHOTOMY: I am watching the funeral of the NYPD Officer who was killed. I have talked to countless young men who believe killing police officers is the answer. I vehemently disagree. While watching the coverage on CNN, there are several significant dichotomies and differences I am observing in the coverage afforded officers and the coverage afforded Michael Brown and others. There are significant differences in the manner in which police officers respond when the person killed is a police officer. I am also taking note of how the media glorifies police officers but vilifies our children when they are killed by police. I am also noting how police officers asked protestors to suspend their protest activities yet they are leveraging this very sad moment to display prominent protest signs against New York Mayor DeBlasio. It also reminds me of how police officers failed to pay respect to Michael Browns family and even wore bracelets that stated I Am Darren Wilson while standing guard near protesters.I have attended police officers funerals as a citizen. When an officer or any person is killed, left behind are a widow and fatherless children. Just thinking of the pain the family must endure day after day is heart wrenching. New Yorks police leadership is working to seal the lips of DeBlasio and punish him from speaking honestly about a real issue we as black people face and whites do not. They are using the actions of a deranged man (probably suffering from PTSD brought on by the repeated killing of African American males) to dissuade politicians from taking actions that need to be taken to prevent the killing of African Americans. We should pray for the officers families but we must not be deterred in working to stop police officers from killing unarmed African Americans. Watching the police blame these killings on DeBlasio attests to the fact that police believe themselves to be above reproof. AMERICA HAS BEGUN TO LOOK LIKE A POLICE STATE. Also, I am really starting to not like CNN. Very slanted reporting.
