DID YO KNOW........ Seventy years ago in Tecumseh, a man named Perry Hayden stated he was going to take God at his word and see what would happen, when he heard his preacher about wheat in John 12:24. Hayden, a Quaker and mill owner –(the City’s Hayden – Ford Mill Building) started the Dynamic Kernels tithing project. He planted a cubic inch of wheat and upon harvest, ten percent was donated to his church and remainder was replanted by Hayden the following year. He continued doing this for the next six years. In the final year 2,600 acres were needed to plant his crop. Automaker Henry Ford – in is last public activity – helped Hayden by donating much of that land. The final crop yielded 72,000 bushels of grain. The tithing project gained world-wide fame and was included in a feature in Life magazine on July 24, 1944. To learn more of the “Dynamic Kernels” tithing experiment, check out the Tecumseh Area Historical Museum which has more information in book and dvd form. Photo
