Couples, or soon to be married couples, who are of relatively equal wealth and earning capacities, enter into prenuptial agreements knowing that if they divorce, they will retain their individual wealth and earnings. The real rub comes from unequal wealth, differing earning capacities, disparate education and the role each takes in the marriage. To make it clear, if you are the lower earning spouse, bring little to the marital table regarding assets and earnings, and assume a role of homemaker, seek advice from an attorney before you sign a prenuptial agreement. I know your marriage is special and will not end up in a divorce, but maybe it will. You could end up without any assets, with new debt, and no spousal support.
