DID YOU KNOW .... CVS plans to purchase the property are contingent on building their CVS and CVS only? This is sited from an article in mattapoisett.wickedlocal, this past week. Just learned that Tinker Saltonstall has started a letter of additional protest, that needs YOUR signature. Please email her at: tinkersalty@gmail to put your name on this letter. PLEASE CONTINUE READING BELOW >>>> THANK YOU The recent announcement of CVS’ plans for The Captain Hadley House corner in Marion comes as a direct result of the developer’s recent success in obtaining a Purchase and Sale agreement with The Loft School for the one small, but immensely important, parcel of land that ties four lots together into a viable commercial box store development. On behalf of many former and current Loft School parents, Board Members, Board Presidents, Directors, and the greater community, we would like to express our deep concern over the actions taken by the current Loft Board, which have resulted in much controversy in our community. We have many years of history with Loft and want only to see our cooperative preschool continue to thrive and be an integral part of the community. A little history…in 1998 a small parcel of land on Rt. 6 in Marion, next to The Captain Hadley House, was generously gifted to Loft in hopes that they would be able to build a school on the property. After many studies were done, the conclusion was clear that it just wasn’t feasible for countless reasons. The donors of the land requested in their letter that if the plans for a new school did not materialize, then it was their wish that the land be used for non-profit purposes only. Offers to purchase have come in over the years and the Loft Board has met, discussed and voted not to sell. Developers, including those representing CVS, have been trying for years to get a hold of this land. It is the last link they needed to control the entire corner of what many consider to be the entrance to Marion Village. Previous boards have passed on their documentation and consulted on this issue…now the Loft Board votes to sell. We have been told that the board was unaware that they were agreeing to sell their land to a developer that would use it as a CVS. If that is the truth, one would think that they have the right to breach the contract. As a part of the Loft family, your Board represents you. They needed to reach out to the Loft families in good faith and continue the long history of being community minded and upholding the wishes of countless previous boards. We urge you to ask your current board to reconvene to discuss their agreement to sell this property (against the donor’s express wishes). What options do they have? At the least, how about considering another offer that would keep with the spirit that the donor of the land intended? We know that the Loft Board should not be put in the position to act as our town Planning Board, but it should be civically aware and be respectful of a document that was written 16 years ago requesting that their gifted land be used for non-profit purposes only. Loft has an obligation as a member of the greater community to consider its actions and how it affects all of us. Please, Loft Board, reconvene and discard this agreement, your town will be there for you. Respectfully,
