DID YOU KNOW…….? Did you know that Hollywood Fire Rescue is one of just three Fire Departments in the state of Florida that operates Tractor-Drawn Aerial Trucks (what we grew up knowing as a “Hook & Ladder”)? More than just a source of pride and beauty, this lumbering giant performs a duty in the Fire Service that is unrivaled by any other Aerial (Ladder) Truck in existence. Her ability to reach the tallest of buildings, round the sharpest of corners and navigate the tightest of spaces makes her invaluable to the community she diligently serves. As you can see, Tractor-Drawn Aerial Trucks have been an integral part of Hollywood’s history since very early on in our founding. Currently, Hollywood Fire Rescue has two of these “Hook & Ladder” Trucks in our inventory. Even though the one stored at our Easternmost Beach Station has been unmanned, out of service, and occasionally used for spare-parts for quite some time now; the one at our Westernmost station still remains an active part of our arsenal; always ready to reach out and save someone, using the immense amount of equipment she carries within. From vehicle entrapments to high-rise fires and everything in between, she can handle anything that she’s tasked to do. More importantly, because every shift she is handled, driven, and cared-for with the utmost reverence and pride by the Driver/Engineers who are assigned to her, and with an entire spare-parts truck to supplement her maintenance, there’s no doubt that Hollywood Fire Rescue, and the citizens we protect, can have her around as a source of pride for many years to come. So the next time you see this gentle-giant plying the streets of Hollywood, you can look up, smile, take a photo or two and be assured that you’ll never be out of reach from the members of the Hollywood Professional Firefighters. To learn more about this fascinating apparatus, her role in the Fire Service and in Hollywood, and/or to view her in person; she is assigned to Hollywood Fire Station 45 on 64th and Taft (public record).
