DID YOU KNOW Just returned from doing a program for the Minneapolis Heart Institute. While there I learned of a study that found that even if you do not have diabetes, elevated blood sugar may increase the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. The study, which involved more than 2,000 healthy people over age 65, found that even those with average blood sugar levels of 115 (100 to 125 is considered prediabetes) were 30% more likely to develop dementia than those with levels averaging 95. Bottom line: dont be so concerned with your cholesterol number that you forget about your glucose number. If it is too high, take action - lose weight if needed, avoid refined carbohydrates, exercise regulary, eat fruits, vegetables and lean protein, and talk with your doctor.
