DID YOU KNOW? The Leafs missed the playoffs in 1968. In fact, they have sucked big time since the final Original Six season of 1967. Since 1968, it has always taken at least 3 best-of-seven playoff series victories to win a Cup. in 1975, the NHL introduced a best-of three "preliminary round". Nevertheless, the eventual Stanley Cup champion had to win at least three full best-of-seven series. In 1980, the Preliminary round was expanded to a best-of-five series. Only in 1987 was the playoff structure modified to four best-of-seven series. From then on, the eventual Stanley Cup champion had to win 16 playoff games to win the Cup. So get this: Between 1968 and 1986, in an era of expansion, the Leafs won ONE best-of-seven playoffs series. Do you realize how much that sucks? In comparison, over the same period, the Chicago Blackhawks won 11 best-of-seven playoff series, yet did not win a Stanley Cup. The Laffs have really sucked for a long, long time. We have proof!
