DID YOU KNOW: The [former] Perrysville School was built and ready for use in 1924. The two story brick school housed all grades under a single roof, featuring individual classrooms and a gymnasium that could double as an auditorium. While the previous school was located downtown on First Street, this one was built on the western edge of the village--directly across third street from the former site of the Greentown Academy--in order to allow for athletic fields to be built adjacent to the building. Now featuring athletic fields, the school became home of The Admirals and Lady Admirals basketball, football, and baseball teams. The mens and womens teams won a number of titles between 1924 and 1961. The Admiral moniker was likely an homage to Commodore Perry, the namesake of the village...however the origins are not entirely known. In the mid-1930s all rural, one-room schools were closed and consolidated with the Perrysville district. By 1951 the student population had grown so much that a new addition was built, a single-story addition with classrooms on the ground floor but a finished basement with more classrooms and a cafeteria. While the two buildings were separate at first, they were later joined by the addition of an office space placed between the two buildings. In 1955 the old, two story building was renovated by the Snyder Bros., updating and modernizing the facilities, including new safety features such as electric fire alarms. In 1961 the Perrysville district merged with Loudonville to form a consolidated Loudonville-Perrysville district. At that time the Perrysville High School and Admirals were retired, with the building being used for various elementary, middle school, and Jr. High grades until 2012 when the building was closed permanently. In 2014 the building was sold at auction to a private buyer.
