DILEMMA: Simba remains hospitalized at AES. As it turns out, not only is he diabetic, but he has hyperthyroidism which has caused some heart disease - extent unknown. Bloodwork and urinalysis show no significant findings. They want to have him see a cardiologist to see if there is any damage to the atrium in the heart. The closest one is Cornell. I have already forked out $1,600+ for his care in the past two days. There remains approximately $2,500 on my CareCredit card for this purpose. Its not that I dont want to spend the money, but Im starting to wonder if there is any value in doing so. If there is damage to the atrium (as they suspect) I cant afford to have it repaired anyway. The only way to get him seen immediately at Cornell is on an emergency basis, which drives the cost astronomically high. Otherwise, he cant be seen until late May or early June. So, do I just bring him home, give him the heart meds they recommend and make him as comfortable as possible for as long as possible? Do I max out that card taking him to Cornell? Do I max out that card taking him to Cornell to find that I cant help him anyway? I HATE that this comes down to money, but I have other responsibilities as well. What are your thoughts?
