DISCRIMINATION IS STILL ALIVE AND WELL IN THE SOUTH ! As I THINK about today, July 4, INDEPENDENCE DAY, As I write this post, I become upset at the event that occurred yesterday in my life. I went to Winnsboro shopping with a friend and she decided to go to Freds Dollar Store. I gathered my items and proceeded to the register with my friend following me. I was purchasing several household items as well as some school uniforms. As I began to place the uniforms on the counter, the cashier informed me that they would have to be rang up separately because it was 15% off on them. I was fine with that. So, I preceded to take out my checkbook to pay for my other items first (asking the cashier did I need to fill out the check as alot of places you no longer need to do that) and the lady (AN ELDERLY WHITE LADY) immediately asks me, You dont have a debit card? Now this question startled me and I immediately replied YES I DO, WHY? Well, can you use that? I replied to her, WHY, YOU ALL DO NOT TAKE CHECKS? She replied, well its the weekend and it will take awhile. Now, I am thinking AWHILE FOR WHAT? AWHILE TO BE RETURNED UNPAID??? So, I asked the cashier, Do YOU ASK EVERYONE THAT COMES IN HERE THAT QUESTION. She said yes, if I dont know them of recognize their face. Then states what difference does it make if you have the money. Now, my blood is on fire because ITS THE PRINCIPLE OF THE THING. Are you insinuating that I dont have money because of WHAT????? I COULD HAVE VERY WELL PAID CASH, USED DEBIT....WHATEVER!!! So, she calls her manager up and she looks at my check and say that she doesnt know that bank. I tell them WOODFOREST is a bank in Walmart. There are locations in Monroe, Vicksburg. Matter of fact they must be WORLDWIDE because I just left Galveston and stopped in a Walmart and went to the BANK there. Now at this point, she must could see the agitation on my face so she tells her to take all my information.. Now GET THIS: She inputs it (my check for $63 and they have UPDATED THEIR SYSTEM TO THE ETF where they return your check to you, just like Walmart. I was thinking I AM NOT going to pay for the uniforms but I did just to prove a point.. I paid for my kids uniforms with CASH not debit which was about $120. Now, I am really upset because I am thinking after 38 3/4 years of being on this earth I have never NOT ONCE felt discriminated against until yesterday. Did the lady ASSUME because it was a HOLIDAY , 4th of July, that I was just writing checks and didnt have any money because I am BLACK! I DO NOT believe that she ASKS everyone do they have a debit card that attempts to purchaseitems with a check . THAT STORE TAKE CHECKS and unless ETF declined my check, I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN QUESTIONED. Point blank period, I dont know what this world is coming to..Needless to say, their corporate office was closed by the time I made it home. You can best believe at 8:00 AM ON Monday , I will be on the phone. Maybe, I looked like I didnt have any money. She should have thought twice before speaking to an EDUCATED, HARDWORKING BLACK WOMAN that by the way DOES HAVE MONEY IN THE BANK and MY PURSE to cover ANY CHECK THAT I WRITE...,, It havent ALWAYS been that way but I THANK GOD for the STRUGGLE and bringing me through and she had the nerve to try and SET MY BACK by STEREOTYPING ME!!! Because thats what she did..... WRONG PERSON THIS TIME MS. CASHIER AT FREDS DOLLAR STORE IN WINNSBORO.... signed #oneANGRYBLACKCustomer
