DISHEARTEN; 1. To depress the hope, courage or spirits of; discourage. 2. To weaken or destroy the hope, enthusiasm, etc. of; When a local animal control is contacted regarding an animal in a questionable situation, a wellness check must be performed for each and every called place. Monday December 8th. A wellness called is placed. Information is exchanged and I am told an AC officer will be sent out this same day, Monday or Tuesday. I am asked to call back in a few days to follow up. The receptionist had stated that this was not the first time they have been called to this residence. Friday December 12th. I call the local AC to follow up on my call placed. I was told that an officer had visited the residence but no report has yet been filed. I am asked to call back Monday. Monday December 15th. I place another call to the local AC. The report has not yet been filed. I state that I will call back on Wednesday. Thursday December 17th. I continuously call AC. The recording states that they are closed, that I must have reached them at non business hours. It also states that they are open Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. It was Thursday, during normal business hours. They never shut off their night service recording. Friday December 18th. I place yet another call to AC to follow up on my call placed nearly 2 weeks ago. The AC officer answers my call. She states that they have visited this residence numerous times before and at this time, the owner is in no violation. The dog has what it needs to live a quality life chained outside. I try to explain to the office that myself and 4 others have been feeding and watering this dog each and every night for the last 4 weeks. That my original call was placed due to the owner randomly feeding and watering him. He is thin, ribs and spine exposed and without the 5 of us regularly feeding him, he would not survive the winter. I also try to find an understanding as why 2 weeks had gone by with no report filed? My concern is ignored and she dismisses the call. I am discouraged and angry at our state run facilities. I do not receive a paycheck for rescuing and saving dogs. More times than not, I spend my paycheck on supplies needed for dogs that humans have failed. I am guessing that the AC officer I spoke with collects her paycheck and nothing more. To her, this dog that we are desperately trying to save is just what the owners intended it to be, a lawn ornament. We will be launching a t-shirt campaign soon, to help fund dogs such as this. If we cannot free them from their chains, then let us do what we can to provide a comfortable living environment. One Love One Loso.
