DISNEYLAND FACT OF THE DAY: Starting in July 1956, guests exploring the little Frontierland area called El Zocalo would have discovered a dignified, two-story white building at the back of the square. Mineral Hall showed and sold exotic rocks and minerals, highlighting the merchandise with black lights to draw out spectacular colors. So impressive was this display that dazzled guests could even buy the lights along with their mineralogical wonders so they could recreate the show at home. After Mineral Hall closed in December 1962, the restaurant next door, Casa de Fritos, gradually expanded into the space. Eventually some of the old hall was converted to offices that were closed to the public. Today, however, guests can still find a nostalgic Mineral Hall window at todays Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante.
