DISTORTION AND TRAVESTY OF HISTORY Over the period,I have read an article written by one Casely Hayford who is an economic analyst. In that article,Casely Hayford sought to justify the 1966 coup detat which saw the brutal exit of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He wrote that article to suggest that the overthrow of Nkrumah was proper because to him,it saved the economy of the country. Hayford also asserted that Nkrumah at the time had amended the Constitution to disallow elections. This is absolute shallow and puerile thinking, because anybody with a broad knowledge of history would not make such a grotesque assertion. Hayford,I have this for you, mayhap it will be helpful to you in your future article. 1. Nkrumah contested the first general election in 1951 and won massively against Obetsebi Lamptey. 2. Again,Nkrumah contested the second general election 1954 and won massively with 79 out of 104 seats in the legislature against the same Obetsebi Lamptey. 3. Again,Nkrumah contested the third general election in 1956 and won massively. The Danquah-Busia Tradition/NLM/NLC/UP never won any election against Nkrumah so how does Hayford assert that Nkrumah never allowed elections? Misguided and misplaced assertion. Now,by the time the 1966 coup ended, the Gold Refinery which Nkrumah had started was 80% completed. Hayford,do you know what happened to that pyrrhic facility? The perpetrators and engineers of the 1966 coup left that facility to rot at Tarkwa. The effect is that today,Ghana does not have a Gold Refinery. Something which is crucial to the growth of the economy. Hayford, how does this delibrate negligence on the part of the Danquah-Busia Tradition contributes to the development of our economy after they had ousted Nkrumah? Hayford, again,as part of their opposition to Nkrumah, the Danquah-Busia Tradition were being collaborated to bomb the Akosombo Dam. How was that helpful to the growth of the economy as you are justifying the 1966 coup? But for the Akosombo Dam,where would you have gotten light? Again,Nkrumahs 7-year development plan was made to go waste after they ousted him. What is the contribution of that to the growth of the economy? Do you know how significant and imperative that 7-year development plan was? In discussing this topic,it is substantially imperative to also put on record that, the CIA was implicated in the brutal overthrow of Nkrumah. What was the American interest? History also has it that, all the bombs that were thrown at Nkrumah came from Ivory Coast under Felix Houphouet-Boigny. He also aided in the overthrow of Nkrumah. Again, what was the Ivorian interest at the time? Clearly,Nkrumah was overthrown because he was not ready to succumb to the whims and caprices of the predators from the European Metropolis. Nkrumah was overthrown because he was not ready to send the country back into the Dark Days to be turned left, right and center by the predators in the European Metropolis. Hayford,I am convinced to say without an exiguous of equivocation that you didnt know all these facts before churning out that dyfunct and bizarre article. How could you try in a petty and jejune attempt to justify the unjustifiable and indefensible? What purpose does it serve? Calculated to achieve a mischievous effect? These neocolonial and misguided elements would not learn!!!
