DIVIDENDS OF JONATHANS TRANSFORMATION AGENDA Striking Health Workers Dare FG The striking medical personnel in health institutions in the country yesterday vowed to continue with the strike despite non-payment of their salaries by the federal government. The striking workers said government had refused to pay their November and December salaries. It was gathered in Ibadan yesterday that Nigeria’s public health sector is bound to be in comatose for a long time as medical staff in the nation’s hospitals have vowed to continue with their current nationwide strike, following the collapse of the meeting between their representatives and the federal government team in Abuja. The non-medical staff under the umbrella of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), have also alleged stoppage of their salaries by government. Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, the sectoral chairman, Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions, Comrade M. O. said government is joking since the striking workers are fighting a good cause. According to him, government cannot stop our salaries because we are on strike. “We have been on the issue since 2009 and we have held 15 meetings with government officials. We have signed an MoU which government have failed to implement. “They cannot withhold our salaries more especially when they have paid our counterparts in the health sector. #GMB15
